Pronic asks you: Mechanical or electromechanical tapping ?

What are the differences and how to choose ?

There are several types of tapping solutions, but one is not necessarily better than the other; everything depends on your company's needs, linked to several factors, such as production volume or project type.

The mechanical solution: guaranteed value

The mechanical solution first came onto the market over thirty years ago. Its advantage is not to be underestimated: it can produce large volumes at high outputs (up to 250 cpm) on the same press for fairly simple applications. With this solution, you can work with all kinds of parts, and it has a good quality/price ratio. Mechanical tapping is the solution for mass production !

The electromechanical solution (servo motor): versatility

First used twenty-five years ago, electromechanical tapping is essential today. A solution with many key features, it is flexible to use - independent of the press stroke - and easily adapts to its environment. Servo technology allows the tapping speed to be adjusted for difficult applications, the motorisation and the controller of the electromechanical solution can be easily reused in other tools or for other applications. Electromechanical tapping is the solution for hard and complex parts, such as those for the automotive industry !

In most cases, both types of tapping can be suitable, but each solution has its own particularities that must be analysed before choosing the tapping solution that is best for the company's needs.
