Beyond the limits : PRONIC sets a new tapping record!

Thanks to our collaboration with the SWATCH watchmaking group, we were fortunate enough to be able to design and manufacture a solution for In-Die tapping parts with the smallest diameter ever achieved.
Technical objectives of the projectThe objective was to stamp in the die a timepiece with a diameter of 0.6mm.
We decided to take the plunge, and designed a solution in partnership with Swiss-based CHH microtechnique, part of the Swatch watchmaking group.

The technical challenge was particularly interesting. The S0.6 x 0.15mm tapping was a Pronic first. Such a small diameter means that all moving parts have to be precisely adjusted to limit backlash.

To achieve this, we've used our tried-and-tested planetary gear solution tap-guiding technology. This makes it possible to reduce the tap's pitch to obtain a longer service life.
Reducing the backlash of the planetary gear solution and the positioning of the device ensures that the tap is aligned with the hole to be tapped.

Thanks to a very dynamic collaboration between our customer and PRONIC, we were able to successfully manufacture the tapping unit. The start-up was a great success: the unit taps the parts flawlessly.
